Bathroom Remodel Cost in Chattanooga: What to Expect

A bathroom project can mean anything from new tile around the tub to a full gut-and-rebuild, and the price follows the scope. Here are our starting prices for each kind of project, and the factors that move the final number.

Starting prices at Palacios Installation

• Full bathroom renovation: starts at $10,900, depending on the size of the bathroom
• Walk-in tile shower: starts at $3,600
• Tile tub surround: starts at $1,800
• Tile floors: start at $8.50 per square foot

Three common bathroom projects

A tile refresh, such as new tile around an existing tub, is the smallest project and the fastest way to update a bathroom without touching the layout.

A shower replacement focuses on the shower itself: tearing out the old one, waterproofing properly and tiling a new walk-in shower, often with a niche or bench.

A full renovation covers the shower, floor and walls together, and sometimes layout changes. It costs the most, but doing everything at once avoids tearing into a finished bathroom twice.

What affects the cost of a bathroom remodel

• The size of the bathroom
• How much of it is being redone: shower only, floor only, or everything
• Your tile and fixture choices
• Moving plumbing, the toilet or the vanity
• Repairs found during tear-out, especially water-damaged subfloor around old tubs and toilets
• Built-in details like niches, benches and feature walls

Plan for what is behind the walls

Older bathrooms sometimes hide water damage under the floor or behind the tub surround. It cannot be seen until the old tile comes out, so it is smart to keep a little room in your budget for repairs. A good contractor will show you what they find before doing extra work.

Ways to make your budget go further

• Keep the plumbing where it is when you can
• Use a standout tile in one place, like a niche or feature wall, and simpler tile elsewhere
• Choose porcelain that looks like stone instead of natural stone
• Do the shower and floor together instead of in two separate projects
