What We Built

  • A walk-in shower set under a sloped ceiling and skylight, tiled floor to ceiling in large-format marble-look tile
  • A small square mosaic on the shower floor with a square drain, so the floor can slope to the drain without lippage
  • Two recessed niches set into the walls instead of hanging caddies
  • Large-format tile carried up the angled ceiling, cut to follow the roofline
  • A herringbone marble-look floor through the main bathroom, leading to the freestanding tub

Why a mosaic shower floor

Large tiles look clean on walls, but a shower floor has to slope toward the drain from every side. Small mosaic tiles follow that slope and add grip underfoot, which is why this floor uses them while keeping the walls in large-format tile.

Working under a skylight

A skylight over a shower brings in great light, but the angled ceiling means every row of tile near the top needs a custom cut. Planning the layout around the ceiling keeps those cuts even, so the top row looks intentional instead of squeezed.

Tying the room together

The herringbone floor uses the same light marble look as the shower walls, so the bathroom reads as one design rather than a shower dropped into an old room.

What a Project Like This Costs

Walk-in tile showers from Palacios start at $3,600, and full bathroom renovations start at $10,900 depending on size. A project like this, with a full shower, a new floor and custom cuts under a skylight, is priced after we see the space.
